Data and automation
A fact agreed in one system, passed on, and available to the report that uses it. In transport and logistics that fact is often a movement, a booking or a handover.
Move an agreed fact. Do not expect an interface to settle a disagreement about definition, grain, timing or ownership.
A report that management can use is one that matches the operation, not one that flatters the system which happened to be easiest to query.
Automate a stable rule with a known exception path. Automating a confused process only makes the confusion faster.
The value is fewer retyped facts and a handover someone can explain.
The commercial case is practical. Less rework, a reporting base people will actually open, and processes that move because the systems exchange what they should. Reporting usually lands in Power BI or a warehouse on Snowflake. Movement uses Azure Data Factory, or a small service when a connector cannot hold the rule. PostgreSQL remains the store when the organisation should own the schema. Automation uses Power Automate where people already work in Microsoft 365, and a coded workflow where the exception path is too sharp for that. Connected systems of this kind are described with platforms and integration.
